- The Village Bus and BART reach jobs in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and other downtowns.
- AC Transit has frequent commuter buses to the Peninsula, connecting to Caltrain in downtown San Mateo.
- The Capitol trains and BART-bus provide service from Hayward to San Jose, Oakland, Emeryville, and Sacramento.

Local shopping, restaurants, and entertainment
From the Village Center to Downtown Hayward and BART takes six minutes by Village Bus, which also provides access to stores and restaurants along Mission Blvd. Good stores include Albertsons and Smart and Final. Good restaurants include China AA Buffet, Buffalo Bills, A Street Café, Rue de Main, Neumanali, and several Mexican, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese places.
Our database has 173 local businesses in 65 categories, not counting those on campus or at the local shopping center near the campus at Hayward Blvd. and Civic Ave. Somewhat further away by bus are Southland and Bay Fair malls.
Regional shopping, restaurants, and entertainment: Many destinations are accessible, including San Francisco’s Civic Center and Union Square, Oakland’s Jack London Square, and Berkeley’s Shattuck and Telegraph Avenues.

Medical Appointments
Health care is reached most quickly using the taxi vouchers that come included in the rent or condo fee, and more slowly by transit. Major centers:
- Hayward Kaiser and St. Rose hospitals (via AC Transit, 4 lines)
- Union City Kaiser (via Union City BART and AC Transit 97/Union City #2)
- Laura Grove and Eden hospitals (via AC Transit 87 at Castro Valley BART)
Recreation
An off-shoot from the Ward Creek Trail will reach the project from the north, and connect through to a trail going south to Garin Park—see the Benefits, healthy living. BART and bus provide access to more distant parks.
Distant vacation spots and family
For airports, the Village Bus links to BART, which runs, after one transfer, directly into the international terminal of San Francisco Airport. BART connects at the Coliseum station to the AIR BART bus to the Oakland Airport. Car rentals will have a handy pick up and drop off for special, longer road trips.
